New Aberdeen goalkeeper Adam Collin has set his sights on becoming the long-term solution at Pittodrie by making his short-term move to the Dons permanent.
The Rotherham United goalkeeper yesterday completed his loan move to the Dons and is in the squad for tomorrow’s trip to Ross County.
Collin’s loan move effectively ends his time at the Championship club as he is out of contract in the summer and the 31-year-old is ready to show Dons manager Derek McInnes he is worthy of a long-term deal at the club.
He said: “My contract is up at the end of the season, so if I do well here then who knows what can happen.
“My main focus right now is getting on the pitch and doing well for Aberdeen. But, if towards the end of the season the manager wanted to keep me, then that would be something I’d be interested in.
“It’s all about how I do if and when my chance comes.”
Collin’s long-term aim is to earn a contract with Aberdeen but his immediate target is to win a place in the team.
Scott Brown, who has been in the role of back-up goalkeeper to Danny Ward all season, is Collin’s glove rival at Pittodrie but the new arrival insists he has not moved to Scotland to sit on the bench.
He said: “I never had any doubts about coming to Scotland. This is a big club and it’s a no-brainer.
“I have been frustrated at Rotherham because I haven’t been playing games, so when a club the size of Aberdeen comes knocking you jump at it.
“I have been used to playing in the past. I played 150 matches on the bounce at Carlisle and played 35 times in the Championship last season.
“So, I have been used to playing, which makes it even more frustrating when you are sitting out.
“Especially so when you are out of contract, so when you get a chance like this you have to take it.
“This is a great opportunity for me, so I just want to make the most of it.
“I am ready to play if the manager needs me, I feel sharp and just want to get started.”
