Ross County manager Derek Adams hopes to confirm Raith Rovers attacking midfielder Joe Cardle as his first signing of the summer this week.
The 27-year-old is free to talk to other clubs as his contract with the Kirkcaldy side nears expiry and has agreed to move to the Highlands, despite interest from Championship winners Dundee, who will also be playing in the Scottish Premiership next season.
Cardle, who previously played for Dunfermline, Airdrie, Clyde and English club Port Vale, was offered a new contract by Rovers but had been expected to move to Dens Park.
County believe their late approach has been a success, however, and are confident they have done enough to get their man with Cardle expected to complete the formalities of his deal.
A source close to Cardle confirmed: “There has been talk about Dundee for Joe, however, he has been impressed by County and is heading there.”
Cardle scored five goals in 40 appearances for Rovers last season and played a key role in his club’s Challenge Cup final win against League 1 champions Rangers.
