Peterhead put seven past Cowdenbeath in the last meeting between the sides but Blue Toon midfielder Jamie Stevenson has warned his side to prepare for a backlash this afternoon.
Stevenson spent two seasons at Cowdenbeath before swapping the Blue Brazil for the Blue Toon in 2014.
The Balmoor men extended their unbeaten league run to 13 matches with a 3-2 win against Forfar last weekend but Stevenson knows his former club will be out for revenge at Central Park today.
The 31-year-old said: “I don’t think the 7-0 game in November will have any reflection on this game.
“It is a different environment. I played there myself, so I know it is a tough place to go.
“We will need to win our individual contests because Cowdenbeath will make it difficult for us and be keen to prove a point after the last match.
“We drew 2-2 there earlier in the season and I expect this to be another close match.
“The positive thing is the team is in a really good place.
“We played really well to beat Forfar with 10 men after Steven Noble was sent off on Saturday and hopefully we can keep the momentum going.”
Stevenson believes the Petrofac Training Cup final against Rangers at Hampden on April 10 has been a positive factor behind his side’s excellent run of form.
But the former Real Mallorca youth player knows winning promotion to the Championship remains the major goal.
Peterhead are second in League 1, eight points behind leaders Dunfermline Athletic and five ahead of nearest challengers Ayr United.
Stevenson said: “We have the cup final to look forward to but when we started the season the focus was all about promotion and the play-offs.
“I don’t think that has changed. The cup final is a bonus and it will be a great day for the club.
“But success this season is about making the play-offs.
“Dunfermline are pushing ahead and at one point Ayr United seemed out of reach but we managed to catch them.
“We have got a lot to play for and everyone is desperate to be in the team.
“We have a good squad of players and we all know we have to play well to keep our place in the team.”
