Elgin City manager Jim Weir will have tough defensive selections to make despite Darryl McHardy’s suspension for today’s League 2 trip to Montrose.
McHardy was dismissed early in the second half of the 1-0 win against Clyde at Borough Briggs last Saturday and misses the game at Links Park.
Weir gave McHardy, 20, the captain’s armband during Jamie Duff’s three-month absence with a groin injury and is not short of options at the back.
Weir said: “Darryl has been first class. He has played every game since I came in and he has trained in almost every session. He’s a great character and in Jamie Duff’s absence he worked really hard for the captaincy.
“We felt it was only right to give Jamie the captaincy back for the Clyde game. But we also have Mark Nicolson coming back from suspension, and Matthew Cooper returning from a foot injury, while Sam Dryden has been excellent since joining on loan from Dundee.”
City are 14 points ahead of Montrose, having played a game less but former Gable Endies manager Weir is well aware of their threat. He added: “It’s going to be one of our hardest away games as we have lost on the last two occasions we’ve been there.”
