Peterhead boss says team have exceeded all his expectations

Peterhead manager Jim McInally claims his team’s form has completely exceeded his expectations.

The Balmoor men have not lost on league duty for almost four months when they suffered a 4-3 reverse at Stenhousemuir in October.

McInally’s men will be expected to make it 15 matches without a defeat when League 1’s bottom side Brechin City visit the Blue Toon this afternoon.

The Peterhead manager said: “We just set out to win matches and it has been a good time to be part of the club.

“Every week I wonder whether the run is going to come to an end but it has kept going.

“The players have been absolutely brilliant.

“The run has completely exceeded my expectations.

“I did think we were a better side than we were showing in the early part of the season, but I didn’t expect us to go on a run like this, especially as two of the matches have been against Dunfermline and two have been against Ayr United.

“To not lose any of those four was fantastic.

“But it is not all about this run. Over the next two games, I would much rather win one and lose one than draw two to keep the run going.

“Brechin went on a long unbeaten run last year but they had about 10 draws and we will keep going out to win games.”

Despite sitting four points adrift at the bottom of the table, Brechin are the only side to win at Balmoor this season.

Robert Thomson netted a late winner for the Glebe Park side in September’s 3-2 reverse.

McInally added: “There certainly won’t be any complacency as they are the only team to beat us at Balmoor. Revenge is on the mind.”

Leighton McIntosh (ankle) is expected to miss out while captain Steven Noble is still suspended.
