Ross County manager Jim McIntyre will try to sign a goalkeeper following Scott Fox’s injury.
The former Partick Thistle player has been ruled out for two months with a medial ligament injury leaving on loan Leyton Orient player Gary Woods as first choice at Victoria Park.
McIntyre knows finding suitable cover will not be easy with free agents the only option, but is confident he can find a replacement.
American goalkeeper Chris Konopka is at the front of the queue after joining the Staggies on trial.
The 30-year-old holds a Polish passport and does not require a work permit.
He was most recently on the books at MLS side Toronto FC, racking up 24 appearances last season, but was released by head coach Greg Vanney at the end of the MLS campaign.
He was recently on trial with DC United – managed by former Nottingham Forrest midfielder Ben Olson – but failed to win a deal.
Konopka has also spent time with Philadelphia Union, New York Red Bulls and Kansas City Wizards but mainly as an understudy.
He has experience of playing overseas following stints with Irish outfits Bohemian, Sporting Fingal and Waterford United.
The Staggies manager said: “It is very difficult trying to get someone in at this stage, but there are free agents kicking about and it is up to us to find the right one.
“We had a similar situation last year where we took in players who were without clubs and had not done a pre-season, but in a situation like this we will do the best we can.”
County are still waiting to discover the full extent of Fox’s injury but McIntyre is hopeful the goalkeeper will not require surgery.
While Fox awaits the diagnosis, McIntyre has backed Woods, who impressed in his return to first team action in Tuesday’s 2-0 win at Kilmarnock, to be a capable replacement for his injured team-mate.
