Jackson Irvine hopes Ross County can go one better than the class of 2010 by following victory against Celtic by lifting silverware.
The Australian midfielder played a prominent role in helping the Staggies defeat 10-man Celtic in January’s semi-final at Hampden.
It was a repeat of the Scottish Cup semi-final six years ago when County ran out 2-0 winners against Neil Lennon’s Hoops before losing 3-0 in the final against Dundee United.
Irvine, a former Celtic player, hopes this year’s team can make sure they have something to show for their efforts by defeating Hibernian in Sunday’s cup final showdown.
He said: “Efe Ambrose’s sending off was a big factor in the Celtic game. We were under a lot of pressure after losing the early goal.
“But we managed to go on and dominate the match and I felt we deserved the win.
“Celtic were always going to create chances, but thankfully our goalkeeper Scott Fox made a couple of crucial saves.
“It was an amazing day and it took a while to sink in. It was a really special afternoon, but it means nothing if we don’t beat Hibernian.
“Ross County beat Celtic six years ago in a semi-final but we are looking to go one further this time around.”
Hibernian’s title challenge in the Championship has stalled in the weeks leading up to the final after a series of unexpected defeats, but Irvine says the Staggies will expect Alan Stubbs’ side to be at their best for Sunday’s final.
But the 22-year-old is confident his side can emerge victorious if they play to their potential.
He added: “Form goes out of the window in games like this as it is a completely different environment for both teams.
“It is a one-off game and anything can happen.”
“We will expect them to be at their strongest. Hibernian may be a bigger club in terms of size of support but the fact is we are fourth in the league and defeated Celtic to get to the final.”
