Aberdeen defender Shay Logan says he can’t wait to have a crack at Rangers next season after signing a two-year extension with the Dons.
Logan joined the Reds, initially on loan from Brentford, in January 2014 and opted against a return to England by agreeing a deal to remain at Pittodrie until 2018.
The 28-year-old, who had been linked with a move to Rotherham United, said he could have earned more money in England but opted to stay with the Dons because of the lure of European football and a stronger Scottish Premiership next season.
He said: “Aberdeen is a very well-run club and they look after everyone well.
“If I had gone back south I would have been going to a club that wouldn’t have been playing European football.
“Would I have been happy to miss out on that chance?
“The league is also going to be very competitive next year with Rangers coming back and maybe Hibs if they win the play-offs.
“You could have five big, strong teams with Celtic, Rangers, Hibs, Hearts and ourselves.
“That is going to be a very good league.
“People will want to watch it more because of the rivalry between Aberdeen and Rangers as well as Rangers and Celtic.
“That will be good and I want to be a part of that.”
Logan played under Rangers manager Mark Warburton at Brentford and has not been surprised by the Englishman’s success in Scottish football.
He said: “Anyone who has spoken to him will tell you he is a football man who knows a lot about the game.
“He likes his teams to play the game the right way and it will be good to come up against him next season.
“I’m certainly not surprised how well he’s done at Rangers as he only just failed to get Brentford promoted to the English Premiership.
“He would probably still be there if the owner had gone about things differently as it was down to how players were brought in and stuff like that as to why he left.
“Now he has got Rangers back to the Premiership and taken them to the Scottish Cup final after beating Celtic, so he is doing something right.
“I’ll speak to him and wish him all the best when I see him but when we play Rangers there is only one team I want to win.”
