Ross County manager Jim McIntyre has called on the club’s supporters to get behind midfielder Martin Woods after hailing his contribution for the club.
The Staggies midfielder inspired his side to an excellent 4-0 win against Aberdeen yesterday and capped his fine individual display with a stunning long-range finish for the final goal in his side’s impressive win.
McIntyre was delighted to see Woods respond in style after suffering criticism from a section of the Staggies’ support in County’s 3-1 home defeat to Motherwell in midweek.
McIntyre said: “Martin takes some stick from a small element of our support and I think he is under-appreciated at this club. He is certainly not under-appreciated by his team-mates and that is why he is one of the first names on our teamsheet. I’m delighted to have him.
“Some of our supporters need to get a grip, especially at home as quite frankly some of the stick which was dished out to him was unmerited.”
County’s win rounded off a memorable campaign which included a top six finish and the League Cup final win against Hibernian at Hampden in March.
McIntyre is delighted with the success achieved at Victoria Park this season, but knows his side can still improve as his thoughts turn to improving the squad this summer.
He said: “It has been a great season for us.
It started really well in terms of where we left off last season with our consistency levels and to win a cup final was probably beyond our wildest dreams.
“We were hoping for a good cup run but to win the League Cup and beat the quality of teams we did along the way was special.
“There is no doubt our consistency levels could be better in the second half of the season and I’m always greedy as a manager, but the positives are the players have done what we asked them to achieve this season.
“But we have to keep building on what we’ve done and we cannot rest on our laurels.
“There will be other additions in the summer as we have to keep trying to strengthen and I’m always looking for good players to compliment what I have.”
