Ross County goalkeeper Scott Fox will have little time to prepare for his own wedding after his call-up to the Scotland squad for next week’s friendly double-header against Italy and France.
Fox was drafted into the squad by manager Gordon Strachan last week, along with Hearts’ Jack Hamilton, following the withdrawal of Allan McGregor and Scott Bain through injury.
A whirlwind few weeks lie ahead for Fox, who will marry his fiancee, Charlotte, just six days after coming back from the encounter with France in Metz on June 4, before leaving to go on holiday in New York two days later.
It means an unexpected extension to the 28-year-old’s season but Fox is thrilled with his inclusion.
Fox said: “It’s a shock but I’m looking forward to it and it’s a couple of big games as well.
“I come back on June 4, I get married on June 10 and then I go away to New York on June 12, so it’s worked out perfectly.
“It’s going to be a big couple of weeks.
“We finished after the Aberdeen game, so I chilled for four or five days, doing family things. That has changed as I now have to get ready to go and train again but it’s a massive thing for me.
“Looking at the three Scotland goalkeepers, in David Marshall, Craig Gordon and Allan McGregor, someone might need to get a wee injury in order for me to get my opportunity and that’s what’s happened.”
The call-up marks a recall to the Scotland squad for Fox, who was previously part of a squad that faced United States and Norway in a double-header during his time with previous club Partick Thistle in November 2013.
Having enjoyed a successful debut campaign with the Staggies after his move from Firhill last summer, Fox says his previous experience with the national team will serve him well, and he added: “I was kind of taken aback by it last time. There were Premier League players and at the time I was just coming from Partick.
“I’m a bit older and wiser now, so I’ll just enjoy it. I know what to expect and I will not be taken aback by it. I will just do what I’ve been doing and see what happens.
“I’m just looking forward to going there. It’s been a good season but this just kind of tops it off.
“When I left Thistle, I said I wanted to go and play in big games and win cups, and try and get into the Scotland squad.
“It’s been a hard season but we’ve done well, the team has been brilliant.
“That’s what’s given me the platform to get this opportunity. Everything has worked out well and I hope it continues.”
