Rangers have completed the signing of experienced midfielder Joey Barton.
The 33-year-old travelled to Glasgow this morning and, after passing his medical, put pen to paper on a two year deal.
He was convinced to make his move north after being given a guided tour round both Ibrox and the training ground by Warburton last week.
The England cap will be unveiled at a press conference at 3.30pm this afternoon and will officially join the club on July 1.
A statement from the Ibrox club said: “One of the most recognisable figures in British football, Barton’s signing is a real coup for Rangers and everyone at the club extends a warm welcome to him.”
Free agent Barton had a 12-month offer on the table to stay at Burnley but decided to go with the longer-term security offered by the Ladbrokes Championship winners.
Barton had hoped his move north would signal a return to European action but has not been put off joining the Gers despite seeing their Europa League hopes evaporate with Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to Hibernian in the final of the William Hill Scottish Cup.
The central midfielder was named Burnley’s player of the year as he helped lead Sean Dyche’s side back to England’s top division as Sky Bet Championship winners.
He becomes Rangers’ fourth summer signing, joining Accrington pair Josh Windass and Matt Crooks as well as former Liverpool midfielder Jordan Rossiter.
