Hibs manager Alan Stubbs has agreed a three-year deal to join Rotherham United, according to the Championship side’s chairman.
The news will come as a huge blow for Hibs fans with the popular manager now only waiting on agreeing a compensation deal before leaving the club.
The former Celtic and Everton defender met with the Rotherham hierarchy on Tuesday afternoon and following successful negotiations, a compensation fee of around £120,000 is expected to be sought.
Stewart said on Tuesday night: “We were granted permission to speak with Alan and there has been a meeting.
“We have agreed terms on a deal for three years and both sides are happy with what’s what.
“The compensation is the only thing left to sort out and I’m hoping that will be a formality.
“Paul Douglas (CEO) is on with the compensation tonight (Tuesday). Hopefully Alan will sign tomorrow (Wednesday) and we can hold a press conference to unveil him.
“That’s the plan, we don’t expect any obstacles.”
Former Manchester United manager David Moyes warned last week that Stubbs should not rush into leaving Hibs but the Liverpudlian may decide Rotherham will provide him with the ideal stepping stone to a future move to the Premier League.
