A Euro 2016 match descended into chaos tonight after a flare thrown by Croatia fans exploded in a steward’s hand as he tried to carry it off the pitch.
The steward narrowly avoided serious injury after it shot away from him and towards a player during the Croatia and Czech Republic group match.
More than half a dozen flares or firecrackers were thrown from the Croatian end onto the pitch in the final minutes of the game.
Fighting continued up until the final whistle and beyond as the tournament continues to be marred by fan violence.
The game finished 2-2 with Tomas Necid scoring in the 93rd minute for the Czech Republic.
