Former Wales international Ched Evans has today joined English League One side Chesterfield – despite facing a retrial over rape allegations.
The former Manchester City and Sheffield United striker had a conviction for rape quashed in April this year but will face a retrial on October 4.
Evans, 27, was sentenced to five years imprisonment after being convicted in April 2012.
After serving two and a half years, he was released after appearing before the Court of Appeal.
He continues to protest his innocence.
Evans, who has signed a one-year contract with an option for a further year, said: “I am very excited and privileged to be resuming my career at Chesterfield and I hope to make a valuable contribution both on and off the pitch for the football club, the fans and the community.”
