Dons fans may have grown tired with Gordon Strachan’s reluctance to call up Aberdeen players for his national side but they will be even less happy at the name tipped to replace him.
Bookies have slashed the odds on Dons boss Derek McInnes becoming the next Scotland manager, with betting comparison site SmartBets listing the Pittodrie favourite at 9/2 for the job.
The odds, courtesy of BetVictor, list former Celtic midfielder Paul Lambert as joint favourite, with under-fire Sunderland boss David Moyes rounding off the top three at 8/1.
45-year-old McInnes led the Dons to a second-place finish last season, has won 90 of his 163 matches since taking over in 2013 and took home the Scottish League Cup in 2014.
He could appear a more attractive option than Lambert, who has failed to pick up another managerial role since leaving Blackburn Rovers at the end of the 2015-16 season.
Rounding out the list of possible suitors is Iceland’s Euro 2016 cult icon Lars Lagerback at 10/1, Joe Jordan, Alan Irvine and Steve Clarke each price priced at 12/1 and even Sir Alex Ferguson price at 16/1 alongside former boss Alex McLeish.
