Caley Thistle have been a thorn in Aberdeen’s side for more than a year and Dons attacker Niall McGinn wants to end the Highlanders’ hoodoo over his side today.
The Dons took one point from a possible nine against Inverness last season as Caley Jags ended the campaign as the only team not to be defeated by Derek McInnes’ side in the Scottish Premiership.
McGinn watched Richie Foran’s players continue their good run of form against his team when Inverness claimed another point at Pittodrie on September 10 and the Northern Irishman knows he and his team-mates cannot afford another slip-up today.
He said: “Inverness have been a bogy team for us recently and we know what to expect. They enjoy coming to Aberdeen and putting on a show against us and it is always a tough game there as well.
“Richie Foran has got them going but whether they are playing well or not they always lift their game against Aberdeen and it is a game we have to be ready for.
“We know this will be a tough test for us. They didn’t start the season well but they have got back to winning games and playing nice football.
“We have to look at ourselves and we are trying to build on the win at Partick in our last game. If we can do that it will set us up nicely for the League Cup final next week.”
Dons assistant manager Tony Docherty needs no reminding of his side’s recent results against Caley Thistle but he is backing his players to change Caley Thistle’s knack of having the upper hand today.
Docherty said: “It is a statistic which has not gone unnoticed by us but Inverness are a good side. They play a 4-1-2-3 system and they know how to play it well but we will have a game plan and if we implement it well then hopefully we can take all three points on the day.
“We have to believe in our own side and we are going there with confidence.”
