Jonny Hayes is a wanted man, with the Aberdeen midfielder a transfer target for Championship clubs Cardiff City and Wigan Athletic.
Dons manager Derek McInnes stressed no bid has yet been received from the Bluebirds and said: “I had a call from Cardiff manager Neil Warnock last week about Jonny. He asked about his availability.
“I am not surprised there is reported interest in our players. We don’t want to sell and we don’t need to. We have our aspirations for this season, to finish second in the league and try to win the Scottish Cup, so any interest in my players is not welcomed, certainly in January when we have so much to do, but whether Cardiff, or any other team, come in with a bid remains to be seen.”
McInnes has transfer targets of his own this month and added: “It’s always the way. It’s called the January window but nothing really happens until the last few days and everyone gets moving.
“Inflated fees get paid but we want January to be a month where we strengthen our squad. We are having to wait for answers on one or two things but only because clubs are saying they want to see the lie of the land.
“It is difficult to bring in good players because clubs want to keep them. We have plenty of good players and I want to keep hold of them.”
