Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha was in the stands as the Dons sent out a message to their Scottish Premiership rivals.
For stalwart defender Andy Considine, it was an early birthday treat as his superback hat-trick supplemented goals from teammates Adam Rooney, Kenny McLean, Ryan Jack and Niall McGinn in a 7-0 thrashing of Dundee.
Rooney took the moment to celebrate his own landmark, his 100th goal in Scottish league football. Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes described it as a “special night”.
The Dons have now lost just once in their last 10 games and sit 10 points clear of third-placed Rangers after Motherwell held them to a draw at Ibrox.
