Rangers’ players average salary is more than double that of their Aberdeen rivals – and Celtic stars are paid more than five times as much.
The findings, collated in the Global Sports Salaries Survey 2016, says that Rangers splash out an average of £316,888 on their stars – despite currently sitting in the third place in the Scottish Premiership.
The Dons meanwhile are spending an average of £134,670 and Celtic, who unsurprisingly hand out the highest average salary in the league, are spending £717,860 per player.
The report states: “If money talks, Celtic win the league with Rangers second, Aberdeen third, Hearts fourth and an eight-way tussle for the other places in which Dundee have decent resources (relatively) to get away from danger.”
It adds: “Celtic’s average annual first-team pay of more than £700,000 is more than double that of Rangers in second place and almost 17 times that of the average salary at the lowest paid team of the 12 in the division, Hamilton.”
The report found that Celtic’s top players each earn approximately as much by themselves as the entire squads of Motherwell, Kilmarnock, Ross County, St Johnstone, Partick Thistle, Hamilton and Inverness.
The Jags, who currently sit bottom of the table are spending an average of £53,345, while Hamilton, who at £42,606 have the lowest average spend in the league, are currently in 11th place.
