Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne is hoping to persuade Dons manager Derek McInnes to extend his contract beyond 2019.
McInnes and his assistant Tony Docherty rejected the chance to move to English Championship side Sunderland in favour of remaining at Pittodrie.
After the Dons manager turned down the opportunity to treble his wages at the Stadium of Light, Milne is keen to reward McInnes’ loyalty with a longer-term deal.
He said: “That was part of the plan before Sunderland came on the scene.
“We had opened up discussions with Derek in May to renew his package. That ended up being shelved in the run-up to the Scottish Cup final.
“We agreed to pick it up again when he came back from holiday. That is already under way.”
McInnes faces a sizeable rebuilding job with the Dons following the departures of former captain Ryan Jack, Niall McGinn, Ash Taylor and Peter Pawlett, while Jonny Hayes is set to complete a move to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic.
But Milne says the Dons are closing in on their transfer targets ahead of their first Europa League qualifier on July 13.
Milne said: “There has been a lot of planning and discussions taking place over the last three months in terms of reshaping the squad over the summer.
“Derek laid out the bones of his plans some time ago. We have been able to demonstrate to him how we could fund the moves he wants to make.
“That hasn’t really changed. That was under way and when he comes back on Monday we will pick it up and drive things forward.
“We are more than hopeful there will be new players coming in between now and the start of the season.
“In an ideal world Derek would like them all there for a week on Monday when pre-season starts.
“That may not quite happen but I would be most surprised if we don’t have a few more in by then.”
