Aberdeen’s move for Shaun Maloney could be put on hold over an injury concern.
Maloney, 34, who was born in Malaysia and brought up in Aberdeen, is believed not to have yet had a full medical with the Pittodrie club in connection with his proposed move, opting instead to investigate the injury issue before deciding on his future.
Dons manager Derek McInnes’ hopes of adding the Scotland international to the Reds squad for their Europa League tie on July 13 are receding. Maloney had chosen a move to Aberdeen instead of accepting a new one-year deal with Hull City, where he played 14 games last season, the attraction of joining his hometown club – and the offer of a two-year contract – proving stronger.
McInnes wants to boost his squad after the departures of Jonny Hayes, who has joined Celtic, and Niall McGinn, who is considering a move to a South Korean club. Ash Taylor and Peter Pawlett have also moved on.
