Preston manager Alex Neil believes Dons target Stevie May still has much to offer the Deepdale club.
The former Norwich City manager has taken charge at the Championship club after Simon Grayson’s departure to Sunderland.
Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is hoping to bring May, who missed most of last season due to a career-threatening knee injury, back to Scotland. But Neil expects the 24-year-old to remain in England and said: “Stevie was a team-mate of mine at Hamilton, he came on loan. When Billy Reid left, I took over from him.
“Stevie then went on a run of scoring 11 goals in six games for me – if he can replicate that or anything near it, we will be doing all right.
“He’s had a tough time, what we have got to do is rebuild his confidence.
“There is no question he is talented and I think he has a lot to offer.”
