Aberdeen transfer target Kari Arnason has moved a step closer to a return to Pittodrie after his club Omonia Nicosia agreed to let him leave the club.
The defender, 34, has asked to leave the Cypriot club just six months after moving there and Dons manager is keen to bring the Iceland international back to the club.
Arnason, who can play in central defence or midfield, scored three goals in 33 appearances for Aberdeen after his move to the Dons from Plymouth in 2011 before joining Rotherham the following year.
The Dons are close to completing a move to bring back Arnason, who was a cult favourite among the Dons support in his previous spell.
The formalities of his return to Pittodrie will be completed once Arnason passes a medical. However, the player’s return is imminent and he will be available to play in the third qualifying round of the Europa League should the Dons progress.
