Aberdeen midfielder Ryan Christie will be devastated if Derek McInnes leaves the Dons to take charge at Rangers.
McInnes has emerged as the favourite to succeed Pedro Caixinha at Ibrox after the Portuguese was sacked last Thursday after only seven months in charge.
On-loan Celtic midfielder Christie, who scored the equalising goal in Saturday’s 2-1 win against Ross County, said: “Derek Mc-Innes is the main reason I came here. That was because of the way I got on with him and I loved playing under him for the last six months of last season.
“When I was told I could go out on loan again Aberdeen was top of my list for that reason.
“I’ve no regrets. I have love training with him and being part of his squad. But it’s not just me – a lot of the players would be disappointed if he did leave because of what a great manager he is.”
The Dons midfielder added: “We are used to the speculation. It’s part and parcel in football.
“When one manager goes, especially with it being Rangers, our manager is going to be mentioned.
“The manager has been top class. He’s not even mentioned it. Training has been normal and everyone was fully focused on getting back to winning ways against Ross County. I think that showed out on the pitch.”
Christie, meanwhile, is one of several Aberdeen players who could be named in Malky Mackay’s Scotland squad today for the friendly against the Netherlands at Pittodrie on November 9.
But the 22-year-old, who has yet to win a first senior cap, is not anticipating being named in the squad.
He said: “It is not even in my head. I’m not expecting anything.
“Right now I think there are people in front of me in the pecking order – the likes of Graeme Shinnie and Kenny McLean, they are the players I think deserve a call-up.
“I train with them every day and know their quality. I think they are international players. I wouldn’t say there is a frustration from them at not getting picked. They just keep playing well and there consistency is so high every week.
“I am more optimistic for Graeme and Kenny this time, I think they definitely have a chance.
“They have been consistent and that is what international managers look for.
“As for myself I haven’t been doing that as much. I have gone off the boil a bit in the last few weeks.”
