Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is interested in managing Scotland – just not yet.
The Dons boss has found himself thrust into the running for the vacant national team post after Northern Ireland manager Michael O’Neill rejected the chance to replace Gordon Strachan on Monday.
While flattered by the latest link McInnes, who takes his side to Ibrox to face Rangers tonight, is focused on his career at club level.
The Aberdeen manager said: “I’m preparing myself for the game tomorrow, you can’t do anything about whatever else is going on.
“Everyone knows how happy I am at Aberdeen although the Scotland job is one that would be of interest in the future.
“It was disappointing that the SFA were not able to secure who they wanted. I can understand why they wanted Michael.
“I don’t think the SFA can be criticised for trying to get their man and then not getting him. It happens and it’s not the end of the world.
“I’m sure there will be good candidates out there and I’m sure the appointment – whoever they get – will be a successful one.”
