Aberdeen look set to miss out on Hamilton captain Mikey Devlin.
The New Douglas Park club said yesterday they had accepted a bid for the 24-year-old from Championship club Preston, who are managed by former Accies boss Alex Neil.
The Deepdale club later released a statement of its own saying there was “no agreement in place” with Hamilton over 24-year-old Devlin.
The statement from the Scottish Premiership club read: “We now have a financial agreement with Preston North End for the transfer of Mikey.
“The player has been granted permission to visit Deepdale and discuss terms.
“In the event that Mikey departs in this window it will be with the club’s best wishes.
“He has been an outstanding graduate from our academy and an inspiring club captain.”
Devlin has not played since suffering cruciate ligament damage on the final day of last season but had recovered from his knee injury before his comeback was delayed by a chest problem.
