Aberdeen players have to banish the bad memories of what has happened in recent encounters against Celtic.
That is the view of on-loan goalkeeper Freddie Woodman, who is relishing pitting himself against the Hoops once again.
The Dons have lost their last nine encounters against Celtic and stuttered last weekend in their 2-0 defeat by Hibernian.
But Celtic have not had it all their own way this season, losing to Hearts and Kilmarnock, and a week ago they were held to a goalless draw by St Johnstone.
Woodman played for Kilmarnock against the Hoops last season in a 3-1 defeat and knows past experiences will count for nothing at Pittodrie on Sunday.
He said: “People have told me about the past but you can’t really think about it too much.
“You have to focus on this game as you can’t affect what’s happened. We can’t wait for the game on Sunday to try to get the win. It’s a very exciting time to be an Aberdeen fan.
“We’ve got some great games coming up, starting on Sunday with Celtic and then Killie in the cup.
“It’s a fantastic game to look forward to on Sunday. Playing against Celtic is always nice and I’m looking forward to testing myself against a really good team.”
The 20-year-old joined on loan from Newcastle United on transfer deadline day and has started all three games since his arrival, replacing the injured Joe Lewis between the posts.
His father, Andy, made more than 400 appearances as a goalkeeper in the lower leagues in England and worked as Newcastle’s goalkeeping coach for nearly five years.
Woodman credits his dad as a huge influence in his career and hopes the move to Pittodrie can vault him towards the England senior set-up after representing his country at all the youth age groups.
Woodman added: “My dad has helped me so much and he gave me a bit of advice ahead of the game on Sunday. When we both found out Aberdeen wanted to take me on loan it was a surreal moment – a club with so much history, you can’t turn them down.
“For me, I’ve played in every age group for England and the final step is the national team.
“It’s been my aim since I was a little boy.
“Hopefully, a loan to massive club like this will help me along the way.”
