Aberdeen’s poor record against Celtic continued as goals from Moussa Dembele and Kieran Tierney earned the Scottish Premiership leaders a 2-0 victory at Pittodrie.
The Hoops had struck the woodwork twice before Dembele nodded home the opener from close range after 37 minutes.
The Hoops were reduced to 10 men when Mikael Lustig was sent off for a second bookable offence with 14 minutes to go but Tierney fired home seven minutes later to make sure of the points.
Dons debutant Sam Cosgrove then saw red for a lunging tackle on Hoops captain Scott Brown, only eight minutes after replacing Stevie May.
The victory sees Celtic take a major stride towards a seventh successive title after extending their lead to 12 points over the Dons and nine over second-place Rangers with 10 games remaining.
Aberdeen were without captain Graeme Shinnie through suspension, while Ryan Christie was ineligible against his parent club.
Dons manager Derek McInnes made two changes to the team beaten 2-0 by Hibernian with Kari Arnason and Stevie May replacing Christie and Adam Rooney, who dropped to the bench.
The visitors were also looking to bounce back following their Europa League exit on Thursday when they went down 3-0 against Zenit St Petersburg in Russia.
They also made two alterations with Tom Rogic and Scott Sinclair stepping in for Callum McGregor and Eboue Kouassi.
The Dons took the game to Celtic early on with Kenny McLean whipping a tantalising free kick across the penalty area but Arnason was unable to connect.
The Hoops survived another nervy moment after 14 minutes when Anthony O’Connor almost nodded home a Kari Arnason long throw from close range.
Sinclair struck the top of the crossbar from a corner before Moussa Dembele almost capitalised in a swift counter-attack and Rogic was thwarted by a fine Freddie Woodman stop.
Olivier Ntcham struck the post from 20 yards before the Hoops took the lead in the 37th minute.
James Forrest was afforded too much space down the right channel and his floated cross was headed home by Dembele from close range.
Soon after, there were scenes of unrest in the South Stand, which appeared to be caused by away supporters in the wrong end and resulted in three supporters being ejected before half-time.
The Dons were almost gifted a way back into the match on the hour mark when, under minimal pressure, Jozo Simunovic collided with teammate Kristoffer Ajer but Gary Mackay-Steven couldn’t pick out May in the resulting Dons attack.
The Dons grew more into the game as Celtic began to tire and they went painfully close to equalising with just under 20 minutes to go.
De Vries denied McLean’s shot from an acute angle before McGinn’s attempt on the rebound was blocked by Ajer. The ball fell kindly for O’Connor but his weak shot was headed clear by Lustig.
The momentum had shifted to the Dons and they were handed a numerical advantage for the final 14 minutes when Lustig saw red for a second bookable offence following a badly timed tackle on Mackay-Steven.
But any hopes of a Dons comeback were ended by Tierney who raced on to a Dembele pass before drilling beyond Woodman with 83 minutes on the clock.
It got worse for the Dons a minute later when Cosgrove was dismissed for a wild tackle on Brown.
