Aberdeen delivered some good news for supporters this morning by announcing the loan signing of Man Utd striker James Wilson.
The 22-year-old was once dubbed “one of the brightest young English prospects” and the future successor to Anthony Martial by former boss Louis Van Gaal.
That comment was delivered in September 2015 after the striker signed a new four-year deal but since then, he has played only played 53 minutes of first team football for the English giants.
A cruciate ligament injury sustained while on loan at Derby County in 2016 proved a considerable setback and Wilson didn’t exactly set the heather alight during other loan spells with Brighton in 2015 and Sheffield United last season.
Nevertheless, the one-time England under-21 international is still considered a major coup for Derek McInnes, and Dons’ fans on social media appear happy with his signing.
Potentially a great signing for the Dons, James Wilson. I was one of the few who thought Maynard would work so a bit more cautious this time. Undoubted pedigree but has had some terrible injuries. May hasn’t looked like a footballer since. Let’s hope Wilson hits ground running.

If it’s the same James Wilson that first burst into the Man United team a few years back and he’s kept well supplied by the midfield, then it has the potential to be the signing of the window. The boy, in theory, should score for fun up here.

Gotta say, I’m very impressed with the acquisition of James Wilson. United had high hopes for him, but sorta went off the rails a bit, due to injury etc. Here’s hoping he can rediscover his sparkle in the red of the Dons. Welcome, James. ?⚪️?

Previous loan signings from the English leagues have went on make big-money moves down south after being a success at Pittodrie. Could Wilson be the next in line?
Following Maddison and Ward, James Wilson will now be worth in excess of £10m after his loan spell at Dons
