Aberdeen were held to a goalless draw by Welsh club Connah’s Quay Nomads in Ireland this afternoon.
All the Dons new signings played with the exception o injured midfielder Craig Bryson.
Summer signings Greg Leigh, Jon Gallagher and Ryan Hedges were named in the starting 11 with goalkeeper Joe Lewis given the captain’s armband.
Curtis Main and Ashton Taylor were among the substitutes but Stevie May missed out due to a virus.
This game was the first pre-season game of Aberdeen’s summer and it showed at times with manager Derek McInnes appealing for more tempo at times but in terms of possession the Dons comfortably dominated the first half.
There were signs of a good understanding developing between Shay Logan at right back and on-loan Atlanta United player Jon Gallagher, who played in front of Logan in a wide-right role.
At left back Greg Leigh looked equally comfortable with all he faced, dominating every aerial challenge and showing a strong willingness to push forward.
But chances were at a premium with a Logan shot was the closest Aberdeen came to a breakthrough before the break.
Aberdeen picked up the tempo in the second half and a Sam Cosgrove drive, which was well saved by Connah’s Quay Nomads goalkeeper Lewis Brass offered hope of a breakthrough.
Aberdeen made more changes for the final half hour but it was the Welsh side which had the next chance through substitute Michael Wide who saw his header tipped over by Joe Lewis before Dons substitute Seb Ross headed Jon Gallagher’s cross past the post.
