Sam Cosgrove scored his 20th goal of the season for Aberdeen before being sent off as the Dons were beaten 2-1 by Celtic at Celtic Park.

Cosgrove’s header cancelled out Christopher Jullien’s opener for Neil Lennon’s side but within minutes of Odsonne Edouard’s goal for the Hoops, Cosgrove was red carded for a foul on Kris Ajer.

Dons boss Derek McInnes made two changes from the side which beat Hamilton 1-0 at Pittodrie last weekend with Greg Leigh missing out due to injury while Ryan Hedges dropped to the bench.

Andy Considine replaced Leigh at left back while Zak Vyner returned in a midfield role.

Celtic manager Neil Lennon made one change from the starting line-up which beat Hearts 2-0 at Tynecastle on Wednesday with Boli Bolingoli replacing former Don Jonny Hayes at left back.

Aberdeen conceded four goals in a nightmare first half when the sides last met at Pittodrie and the last thing they needed was to lose an early goal at Celtic Park but that is exactly what happened as Ryan Christie’s corner was met by Christopher Jullien and his bouncing effort curled up and over Joe Lewis into the net.

Celtic piled on the pressure as they searched for a second goal but it was the Dons who drew level 10 minutes before the interval when Niall McGinn crossed from the right for Cosgrove to head home the equaliser from six yards.

Celtic regained the lead midway through the second half when Edouard exchanged passed with Christie before racing clear on goal to fire past Lewis.

Aberdeen’s hopes of getting something from the game were dented when they were reduced to 10 men 21 minutes from time when Cosgrove was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Kris Ajer.
