Aberdeen hope their cost-cutting measures announced today will protect as many people as possible at the club.
The Dons are expected to announce wage deferrals at some point today, as part of ongoing measures to ease the club’s cash flow during the shutdown of the football season.
Chairman Dave Cormack declared last month that the club faced a £5 million shortfall with the lack of matchday income, with no resumption of the football season in sight. His fellow director Rob Wicks said on Wednesday the club was looking at a range of measures and the Dons were in constant discussions with a prominent investor group over any plans.
A club spokesperson said last night: “Over the last week, everyone at the club, from the investors to the manager, his coaching staff, players and club staff have been working hard to minimise the impact of the tough decisions we are facing, particularly on lower-paid employees.
“I’m confident that today, we’re going to be in a position to announce the results of all our talks this week.
“These will not only protect as many people as possible with as minimal a financial impact as possible, but also significantly help our cash flow and enable us to get through this challenging period.”
The Dons were among many clubs awaiting the outcome of Uefa’s conference call with member organisations on Wednesday, which did not yield any concrete outcomes with regards to the club season.
Scotland still has a June 30 deadline in which to complete its league fixtures from the European governing body, a deadline which looks harder to meet as the days go by.
Cormack had previously said wage cuts were not inevitable at Pittodrie, despite the unknown outcome of the remainder of the season.
Meanwhile, fellow Premiership outfit Ross County have furloughed their playing staff, but will ensure their contracts are paid in full.
The Staggies are the latest club to take advantage of the government’s coronavirus job retention scheme, which will see the taxpayer cover 80% of their wages.
The Dingwall club will fulfil the remaining 20% to ensure players still receive their entire salary.
The club has guaranteed this until the end of April, where there will be a further review.
