Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has had his players practising penalties in preparation for tonight’s Europa League tie at Groningen.
The Dons and their Dutch opponents are on level terms following the goalless draw at Pittodrie a week ago and McInnes is preparing for all possibilities tonight as his side try to book a third qualifying round meeting with Real Sociedad.
The Dons manager hopes to avoid the lottery of spot kicks, though and is confident his side can shock the Dutch at the Euroborg Stadium.
He said: “We kept a lot of their good players quiet last week and have to do the same again but we have players who can create chances and score. If we do get the goal it will be a huge advantage to us.
“We have a very fit squad and are prepared. It will be hot, but it will be the same for both sides. We have complete focus on this game.
“There are areas in which we can improve and it’s game on, both sides will think they can win the game. I don’t know what their manager thinks about their performance and this game but we are very comfortable playing away from home.
“If we get the one goal it’s a huge advantage for us and a lot of our better results last season came away from Aberdeen and we know we can win games.”
