An Aberdeen football legend has spoken out in support of Scottish independence.
Steve Archibald, who played for the Dons between 1977 and 1980, posted several tweets since yesterday (Monday) in favour of a Yes vote.
Last week, the No campaign announced 16 Scottish footballing greats, including Archibald’s fellow Dons legends Willie Miller, Jim Leighton and Alex McLeish, had declared their support for a No vote in next Thursday’s referendum.
The former Scotland star, who also played for Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona, told his followers on the social networking site: “There is no doubt in my mind that Scotland would thrive if independence is achieved, we are a hard working, creative and determined people!
“I feel only friendship towards the English people, have loads of English friends and worked in England for many years, and really enjoyed it.
“But Scotland really need to take control of our own destiny, the Scots have more than enough about us to run our own country.”
