Aberdeen boss Stephen Glass will support Funso Ojo after the midfielder was controversially sent off at Dundee United.
Glass confirmed the Belgian feels like he let the Dons down during the flashpoint in the 1-0 derby loss at Tannadice.
Ojo was red carded after receiving a second booking following an altercation with a Dundee United supporter.
The 30-year-old’s momentum took him over the advertising boards and towards the supporters at the Eddie Thompson Stand near the end of the first half.
Police Scotland confirmed a 35-year-old man has been charged following the incident at Tannadice and is expected to appear at Dundee Sheriff Court at a later date.
Glass said: “I will support the player. He has been brilliant for us all year and I am sure he will continue to be.”
More protection needed for players
Dundee United had been reduced to 10 men just minutes before Ojo’s dismissal when Calum Butcher received a straight red for an altercation with Aberdeen striker Christian Ramirez.
The incident with Ojo came just before half-time.
Glass said “He could be protected by the referee rather than being given a second yellow card.
“He didn’t go looking for the incident in the first place and has hopped the boards after the ball has run out of play.”
He added: “The referee chose to yellow card him and I can’t say too much other than that to be fair.”
Boss Glass red-carded at half-time
Dundee United edged a fiery derby with a goal from Ian Harkes in the 80th minute to condemn Aberdeen to back to back defeats following a 2-0 loss at Motherwell.
Aberdeen dropped to eighth spot in the Premiership table.
Glass was also red carded by Madden in the tunnel at half-time.
He said: “I questioned a couple of his decisions- that was it.
“The referee decided I was questioning his integrity which I would never do.
“I will get the chance to explain myself I am sure as there are a couple of incidents we can actually show that have different outcomes.
“The one that gave me the most concern was when (Peter) Pawlett hit Jack MacKenzie on the head.
“I saw a referee red card a Livingston player for touching a player’s head.
“That’s all I was asking about but I would not question his integrity in any way shape or form.
“But how would a head knock like that not even be a yellow card.”
