Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has urged goalkeeper Scott Brown to make the most of his opportunity after handing him the chance to establish himself at Pittodrie.
Jamie Langfield was a surprise omission from the starting line-up in Friday’s 1-0 win against Motherwell with summer signing Brown given his league debut.
Aberdeen had conceded nine times in four matches before Friday’s win and McInnes was pleased the change had the desired effect.
Brown, who also featured in the League Cup win against Livingston, has kept clean sheets in both appearances for the Dons and will be expected to remain in goal for Wednesday’s League Cup quarter-final against Hamilton Accies at Pittodrie.
McInnes said: “Scott is held in high regard by everyone at the club and has been desperate to play his part. He shows that every day in training and he got his opportunity on Friday. Sometimes goalkeepers get a bit more leeway at times and you show a bit more faith as you don’t change them as quickly as outfield players.
“The other goalkeeper has to sit and wait for that opportunity which can be difficult but when they do get the chance to play they have to take it. Knowing Jamie, he will be itching to get back in the side.”
