Andy Considine is weighing up options from Scotland, England, Europe and Australia as he searches for a new club.
The 35-year-old is a free agent after being released by Aberdeen at the end of the season.
Considine was offered a one-year extension to remain at Pittodrie but the offer was withdrawn after talks between the club and his representatives broke down.
According to a report in the Sunday Mail, A-League side Central Coast Mariners are hoping to convince the Scotland international to make a life-changing move to Australia.
Considine made is 571st and final appearance for the Dons in a 0-0 draw against St Mirren on the last day of the Premiership season earlier this month.
The defender missed the majority of the season after sustaining a serious knee injury in a Europa Conference League match against Qarabag in August.
Who are Central Coast Mariners?
Former Scotland under-21 international Nick Montgomery is the head coach at Central Coast Mariners.
Montgomery spent 12 years as a player at Sheffield United before moving to Mariners in 2012.
He was named as head coach last year after three years as assistant manager.
There would be a familiar face in the Mariners squad if Considine opts to move Down Under.
Former Hibernian and Dundee forward Jason Cummings has enjoyed an excellent spell at the club since joining on an 18-month deal in January.
Cummings, who is of Australian descent, has been tipped for a call-up to the Socceroos.
The 26-year-old has scored 10 goals in 21 games at his new club.
Mariners are based in Gosford on the Central Coast of New South Wales and play at the 20,000 capacity Central Coast Stadium.
