Aberdeen fans seem to have found a new favourite after Leighton Clarkson scored on his debut at Pittodrie – just a few hours after signing for the club.
Clarkson, who was signed on loan from Liverpool on Saturday morning, came on as a substitute in the 12th minute after Hayden Coulson was forced off injured, and the 20-year-old immediately impressed.
He scored a thunderous effort just before half-time, which sent fans at Pittodrie wild, and now Dons supporters have voiced their thoughts on their new recruit on social media.
Kevin Paul Woodrow wrote on Facebook: “Instant fan hero on your debut. Brilliant strike. Well done young man.”
Cathy Spence was just as complimentary, as she wrote: “What an intelligent and talented player to be so young. We are so lucky to have him on loan for the season.
“This young lad has an amazing future ahead of him for Liverpool and England. To be signed at 10.00 am and score a fantastic goal at 3.37pm on his debut and win Man of the Match speaks volumes.”
Twitter was also full of high praise for the new boy:

Leighton Clarkson, at his age, coming on for his debut when he did, was superb for @AberdeenFC today. Really superb. Made a real claim to play every week.

After a dismal campaign last season, Aberdeen’s first home win seems to have helped bring some optimism back to Pittodrie.
Ang Jamieson wrote on Facebook: “Early days and as Goodwin says let’s not get carried away but where are his haters tonight?
“Huge well done to Jim and the recruitment team COYR let’s kick on from here and keep the momentum going!”
Look…I know it’s important to keep grounded and keep a lid on things…..but aye…someone go and book the open top bus already👏👏👏😂

Some fans were a bit more coy with their hopes for the season.
Norrie Webster commented: “Good spirit about the team today smiling faces, working hard for one another the bench looked relaxed and that’s exactly what a team should be about.
“Once all these guys gel together I reckon a very good season..”
Brian Stott said on Facebook: “All the moaning complaining so called fans maybe now appreciating what Jim Goodwin is trying to do and this result today.
“Keep it going Dons and let’s have a great season!!!! COYR!!!!”
