Aberdeen defender Shay Logan believes the current Dons team is better than the one which won the League Cup a year ago.
The cup holders will play Dundee United at Hampden today for a place in this season’s final in March and Logan is confident his side has improved in the year since Caley Thistle were beaten at Parkhead.
He said: “We won the cup last season and I think the squad is better than it was 12 months ago. We have the team to be getting to finals on a regular basis, definitely.
“I think we’ve got the team for that because we can beat anyone on our day. We’ve shown that and we shouldn’t fear any team.”
The Dons missed out on the chance to go top of the Scottish Premiership when they were held to a 1-1 draw by St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park on Friday.
Logan was frustrated as his side failed to win for the second game in succession following the 3-3 draw at home to Dundee in the previous game.
Aberdeen remain unbeaten in 10 games, having won eight in a row before the last two draws, and following their break from league duty for this weekend’s semi-final against the Tangerines, Logan knows his side must get back to winning ways if they are to keep in touch with champions Celtic.
He said: “We felt it was a game we could win on Friday but we started poorly and went a goal down.
“We were probably lucky it wasn’t two, but we stuck in there and Adam Rooney scored a great goal. I felt after that we would go on to win but we didn’t manage it.
“We have 26 points from 30, but the way we’re looking at it is that it’s two points from six lately. We want to push Celtic up there and the St Johnstone game was one we felt we could win.
“But things don’t always work out the way we want and we might reflect on it as a good point.
“We were disappointed on Friday but we’ll get back into training and look forward to the semi-final.”
The Dons lost to the Tangerines on the opening day of the campaign but gained revenge with a comfortable win in the sides’ last meeting at Tannadice in December.
Logan is confident the bragging rights will stay with the Dons following today’s New Firm derby.
He said: “We played them not too long ago and showed what a good team we are.
“It will be a good game, an even game, but I believe we have the players and staff to get through it. But to do that we’ll have to produce a good performance.”
