Aberdeen and Dundee United both have their eyes on a place in the League Cup final, they are both trying to mount a title challenge and they are separated by just three points in the league… But how will Saturday’s game between the teams go?
While certain quarters have focused on another semi final on Sunday, the New Firm derby on Saturday promises to be a thrilling contest – and one that is proving tough to call!
We asked around the P&J office to see how we think the teams will line up and how the game will go, do you agree with any of us?
Danny Law (Sports reporter)
Score prediction: Aberdeen 2-1 Dundee United
Danny’s verdict
I don’t expect this one to be settled within 90 minutes. Nadir Ciftci will give United the lead in the 37th minute from close range but the Dons will level 18 minutes from time through Niall McGinn.
Aberdeen’s superior fitness levels will give them the advantage in extra time with Jonny Hayes netting the winner.
Paul Third (Sports reporter)
Score prediction: Dundee United 0-2 Aberdeen
Paul’s verdict
I expect new signings on show on both sides with Donevorn Daniels starting in central defence for Aberdeen and Ryan McGowan at the back for Dundee United.
Their performances will be key as both teams carry a huge attacking threat.
David Goodwillie is due a goal against his former club and what a time Saturday would be to get it.
Dave Mackay (Political Editor/Biggest Dons fan in the office)
Score prediction: Aberdeen 2-1 Dundee United
Dave’s verdict
I think it will be very tight, but Aberdeen are better defensively and if they take the game to United like they did at Tannadice, they will prove too strong. I predict 2-1 win for the Dons. McGinn and Goodwillie to score.
Andy Clark (Online sports reporter)
Score prediction: Aberdeen 2-2 Dundee United (Dons to win 5-4 on penalties)
Andy’s verdict
Both teams are blessed with a number of dangerous attacking options so I expect to see the Dons concede their first League Cup goals in two and a half years.
However, at the other end I fancy Goodwillie to get a double against his former team and then Dons Mr Consistency Ryan Jack to stroke home the winning penalty.
