Aberdeen Women co-manager Gavin Beith is delighted his side’s wait for their first win of the season is over after they defeated Glasgow Women at Pittodrie Stadium.
The Dons beat Glasgow 2-0 in their second-ever game at Pittodrie, to pick up their first SWPL 1 win of the season – and their first win at the club stadium.
Nadine Hanssen scored her first goal for the club in the 18th minute to give Aberdeen the lead, before Jess Broadrick added another header just before half-time.
Aberdeen dominated the game as they reduced Glasgow to only a couple chances, and the Dons co-manager was pleased to finally pick up their first three-point haul of the campaign.
A ‘huge’ three points at Pittodrie
Beith said: “It’s huge, we’ve had to wait a long time for it – that’s game week nine now. We’ve done it now, but I think we would’ve liked to have gotten more goals.
“For 90 minutes, I think we dominated the game and there was some really good stuff within it. It’s nice to get the three points and it’s nice that it was at Pittodrie.
“It gives us a chance now to create a bit of a gap with Glasgow and focus on the teams above us – and, hopefully go on a bit of a winning run.”
When Hanssen put the Dons ahead with her first-half header, she made history as the first female player to score for Aberdeen at Pittodrie.
Beith says it was a “special” moment for her and her family, as her partner Kelle Roos, who plays for Aberdeen’s men’s team, and baby son Romeo were in the crowd.
He added: “It was always going to be a big game, but to come out and get our first goal here and for it to be Nadine, with her relationship with Kelle (Roos) – it’s special.
“It makes it a little bit more special for them as a family, but also for us as a club and a team as well.
“It was a really good day and another good turnout from the fans.”
Going to Motherwell in a positive place
Aberdeen will have to wait three weeks to play their next game in SWPL 1, which is an away trip to Motherwell on November 20.
And, while Beith is disappointed not to be able to build on the momentum from the win straight away, he is glad that they go into the break off the back of a positive result.
He said: “When you get that first win you want to keep going and get the next one, but we’ll train next week and play a friendly over the break to keep us going.
“We’re going in in a positive place, which is good. We’ve had breaks recently where things have been a bit negative, so it was a long few weeks waiting for a game.
“We’ve picked up the three points, which is great, so it gets us that bit closer ahead of a big game at Motherwell in a few weeks’ time.”
