Fired-up captain Anthony Stewart has challenged Aberdeen to wreak revenge on Dundee United for their Tannadice nightmare.
The Dons suffered a 4-0 away hammering at the hands of Dundee United when the sides clashed on October 8.
Centre-back Stewart has revenge on his mind for the New Firm derby at Pittodrie tonight.
Skipper Stewart wants payback for a “horrible” experience at Tannadice.
He insists the Reds studied what went wrong in that damaging loss to then Premiership bottom club Dundee United.
Stewart is confident lessons have been learned and the Dons will get vengeance for that humiliating loss.
He said: “Revenge is definitely the key word.
“That loss was horrible. Just horrible.
“It is a performance we would never like to revisit.
“We have watched it back and learned from our mistake.
“It was a poor display from us all. A bad day at the office.
“Now we are in great form at home and know what we are capable of.
“As long as we approach the game with the right mentality we will be fine.”
‘Watching it back is a key part of learning’
Aberdeen boss Jim Goodwin and his squad conducted a post-mortem into the Dundee United debacle.
The hammering of the Dons was the Tannadice side’s first win of the season.
Stewart said: “The dressing room was down (after the Dundee United game), for a little while.
“We try not to dwell on things for too long.
“We came in the next day, the Sunday, and did the analysis.
“Watching it back is a key part of learning.
“If you don’t watch back and analyse games there is never going to be any learning.
“It is all good watching things back when you win because momentum is going well and everyone is in a good place.
“When we lose is then it becomes key and learning comes into it.
“From losing you learn a lot more than from winning.
“Once we start the new week we have to move on.”
Leading from the front as captain
Aberdeen currently occupy third spot and a win against Dundee United will retain that position during the five week Premiership break for the World Cup.
The Dons will jet to the United States next week for a training camp at strategic partners Atlanta United.
Stewart was secured in the summer on a two-year deal following the expiration of his contract with Wycombe Wanderers.
Within a week of signing on at Pittodrie the 30-year-old was named as club captain, replacing Joe Lewis.
As club captain Stewart accepts the onus is on him to lift the players after setbacks such as the chastening loss at Tannadice.
He says he has to put his own emotions to one side and concentrate on rallying the squad.
It worked as Aberdeen bounced back from their loss at Dundee United by winning their next three games.
Stewart said: “We all have emotions, we all have feelings.
“But for myself I can’t dwell on things that happened in the past for too long.
“I have to move on and try to lift the spirits of the boys to get everyone buzzing and in the right place.
“We have a young team so it does tend to dwell a little bit longer than it should.
“But at the same time we are good at bouncing back and have proved that in the past.
“Every time we have lost we have come back and won a couple on the bounce.
“Hopefully we will do that again.”
Reaction needed after Livingston loss
The ability to bounce back from a setback will be tested in tonight’s 6pm kick-off with Dundee United.
Aberdeen suffered a 2-1 loss to Livingston on Tuesday despite dominating the second half.
The Reds were 2-0 down after just 17 minutes.
Stewart said: “It was a tough one as we probably have ourselves to blame for conceding two early goals and starting the game slow.
“The reaction was class and we had numerous amounts of shots on target and should have at least come away with a point.
“Unfortunately we came away with nothing.”
