Former Aberdeen midfielder Lewis Ferguson is continuing to impress in Italy.

The 23-year-old moved to Bologna from the Dons for £3 million in the summer.

He made his first Serie A start against Napoli on October 16 and has been named in the starting XI in each of the five games since.

Ferguson has scored three goals in nine league appearances for Bologna so far this season – and his latest strike against Sassuolo on Saturday evening has earned him high praise.

He netted a superb curling effort from the edge of the box for Bologna’s third goal in their 3-0 win against Sassuolo.

According to reports, Serie A giants Juventus have put Ferguson on their January transfer window radar after his impressive start to life in Italy.

He has also caught the eye of football fans on social media, who took to the online platforms to applaud his recent performances in Serie A.

Aberdeen transfer request

Speaking to the Head It podcast last week, Ferguson described how his “head was in a mess” after he handed in transfer request in a bid to seal a move away from the Dons.

Last summer, Aberdeen rejected a bid worth £2 million from then English Premier League side Watford.

Ferguson explained: “When that was going on, my head was a mess.

“I was all over the shop because when that opportunity is put in front of you – to play in the best league in the world, with the best players and it’s not in your control, it’s hard to take.

“It went on for maybe two months and I genuinely couldn’t sleep at night.

“That opportunity was there with a club from the Premier League.

“It was just get dangled in front of you and you aren’t in control to take that opportunity.

“I don’t regret handing in that transfer request because that’s genuinely how I felt at the time.

“I genuinely felt like it was my time to move on and I think everybody would say that was fair enough.

“I wanted to leave but once it got rejected, the bids got rejected and the window closed.

“I was still training hard when it was going on and I’m not the type of guy to change.

“As soon as the window closed, my mind was cleared and I got my head down and I worked as hard as possible.

“The only way I was ever going to get an opportunity like that again was to work hard.

“I just wanted to do well, keep improving and I scored quite a lot of goals that season.”

Ferguson left the Dons this summer after making 168 appearances and scoring 37 goals over his four years at the club – including 16 goals across all competition last season.
