Aberdeen fans were delighted to see their side head into the World Cup break clear in third place in the Scottish Premiership after digging deep to beat Dundee United at Pittodrie.
Pittodrie has been the place to be for goals this season but the Dons had to find another way to win on Saturday as Bojan Miovski’s first-half penalty gave Jim Goodwin’s side all three points in a 1-0 win.
For the Red Army, it may not have been pleasing on the eye, but a rare clean sheet was cause for celebration on social media.
3pts ✅
Clean sheet✅
3rd place before break for world cup✅
Back 3 answered a few questions tonight, thought Stewart played fletcher well. Yes 2nd half, under a bit of pressure, but wasn't like roos had much to do.— Willie Beattie (@BTEafc72) November 12, 2022
Hard fought 3 points and great to get a clean sheet, thought we defended much better tonight, wing backs who both played well were much deeper when United were in attack. Blueprint for future perhaps?

😁3 points and a clean sheet is all that matters. Let them back into the game second half but they've found a bit of form lately. Stewart was my MOTM – won everything in the air and gave Fletcher a tough game. Now we have to put up with the World Cup 🙄

It was a similar sentiment on Facebook.
Graeme Watson wrote: “We have been spoiled at home this season. Not pretty but will take that.
“Some good stuff at times just did not come off and enough battling to get over the line. Thought Clarkson was excellent especially out of possession.”
Stanley Mackie added: “Different kind of win tonight from what we’ve been used to at home but at the end of the day it’s the 3pts that count could be a big 3 pts come the end of season.
“The red shed were brilliant again tonight and the crowds seem to be turning up every week as well.”
Praise for Dons captain Stewart
Aberdeen’s poor defensive record has led to criticism of summer signing Anthony Stewart at times but the Dons skipper earned praise for his no-nonsense display in helping his side record an important victory against the Tangerines.
Duk was given the sponsor’s man of the match award but many fans felt central defence Stewart was deserving of the accolade.
Stewart n Ramadini robbed. Stewart’s best game by a country mile.

He’s a really solid defender, when he doesn’t try to pass the ball out of defence

Bizarre choice. Love Duk but he was hardly in the game tonight except for winning the penalty. Stewart's best game in an Aberdeen shirt

On Facebook Martyboy Weir wrote: “Duk has been superb. I love him, he’s been a breath of fresh air and way he plays, his raw unpredictability.
“Today though was a funny game. Forward players not involved much. Thought Stewart was solid. Will be first to say at times and some games he’s been dodgy but credit where credit is due today was solid.”
Keith Linklater added: “Thought Stewart was excellent the night. Commanding in the air, good interceptions, a real captain’s performance. Gets my vote.”
