Gavin Levey has said the Dons will take their time to find the right person for Aberdeen Women job with the aim of having a new boss in place for the resumption of fixtures after the festive break.
Aberdeen FC academy director Gavin Levey is leading an interim coaching team following Emma Hunter and Gavin Beith’s resignation.
The former co-bosses’ final game in charge was Aberdeen Women’s 2-1 win against Dundee United at Tannadice on Sunday.
It is understood Hunter and Beith had informed the club – and the players – of their decision to leave the Dons before kick-off.
Hunter had been in co-charge of the women’s team for almost four years, while Beith joined the club in September 2021.
Aberdeen are sitting second bottom of SWPL 1, with seven points from 11 games ahead of this week’s visit of Spartans.
They will then face Rangers on December 18 before the festive break which ends with a home match against Hamilton Accies on January 15.
What’s next for Aberdeen Women?
Levey says the Dons will take their time to find the right person to succeed Hunter and Beith.
He said: “We’ve still got to iron out a lot of things because we’ve not had a great deal of time.
“There’s not been the time to refocus and rebuild right away because there’s a game against Spartans that we’re going to try and win this weekend.
“We’re only four years into this project and we’re still young and building on what we’ve achieved in a short space of time.
“We want to make sure that we get the appointment right in the long-term.
“The sooner we put a new manager in place the better, but we will give our absolute all in the meantime before the Christmas break – and out of respect to Gavin and Emma.
“Ultimately our aim would be to start a fresh year in 2023 with a new manager in post.”
New appointment will take Dons into new era
Levey expects the vacancy to be advertised as soon as possible to allow the club to thoroughly assess potential candidates.
He added: “We need to see who is genuinely interested out there and start having conversations with appropriate candidates.
“We want the best person possible that we can bring in who fits our model here.
“We need to move relatively fast because this is the top-flight of women’s football but not too fast to the point we’re making a rushed, rash decision.
“We need to find the right way for the women’s team in what is ultimately a new era, but no one can take away the contribution that Emma and Gavin have made.
“Emma has achieved so much over the years and Gavin made a massive contribution last season when he came into the role – they both did a terrific job.
“It’s now a case of what can we do to make sure that we can build on that platform going forward to get us through the short-term and then in finding a replacement.”
