Danish manager Jess Thorup is NOT in the frame for the Aberdeen manager’s role – despite reports claiming the Dons have “set their sights” on the boss.
Reports in Denmark’s Ekstra Bladet – repeated here – claimed the Dons are targeting the Dane as a potential replacement for Jim Goodwin, who was sacked in January, but Thorup is ready to knock them back over wage demands.
The publication also reported Thorup, 53 – who has been out of work since leaving Copenhagen in September – will make his decision based on him not considering Aberdeen an “attractive” enough proposition to be his next club.
However, it is understood reports of Thorup being a Reds target are wide of the mark.
The club are on-record in their determination to explore all of the options and find the right person to fill their vacant hotseat.
Although there was preliminary contact between the Dons and the Thorup camp in the early stages of the process of finding Goodwin’s successor, when Aberdeen were sounding out several individuals, it quickly became clear the parties were unlikely to reach an agreement financially.
As a result, there were no formal talks with Thorup or offer made.
Youth academy coach Barry Robson has been in interim charge of Aberdeen since Goodwin’s sacking, and has steered the Dons to three consecutive win for the first time since December 2021, reigniting their bid for European qualification.
