Former Aberdeen loan defender Michael Hector is preparing to make his international debut for Jamaica.
The Reading player, who shone for the Dons in a six-month loan spell in 2013, will be in the Jamaica side which faces Uruguay in Chile on Saturday in the Copa America.
The 22-year-old said: “Jamaica has been part of my family, since I was young I was in a Jamaica shirt and I’ve always wanted to do my family proud. I knew playing for Jamaica would be big, especially on my dad’s side of the family.
“My family are originally from Kingston in Jamaica, but they’ve all moved over to London and are living there now. So as soon as I got the call from Jamaica, it was an easy decision.”
The Reggae Boyz have been drawn with Venezuela and Bolivia and Hector added: “It means the world to be here, playing in the Copa America – a very well known tournament. It’s massive.
“And as you can see by the squads that each of the teams have brought here, they are filled with great players. So it’ll be so good to play a part in it.
“We are here as underdogs, but upsets happen in every tournament. We’re not looking to just make up the numbers.”
