Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes is NOT leaving Pittodrie.
Scottish Premiership sponsors Ladbrokes sparked a media frenzy this afternoon when they revealed they have suspended betting on Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes being the next top flight manager to leave.
The move came after a betting flurry at the bookmakers’ on McInnes leaving the Dons and he has already been installed as 4-1 favourite for the Scotland job.
National team manager Gordon Strachan has yet to decide whether he will continue in the role following Scotland’s failure to qualify for next summer’s European Championship final but he did make the trip to Pittodrie on Tuesday to watch the under-21s drew 0-0 with Iceland.
McInnes and his assistant Tony Docherty signed new two year extensions in June to extend their stay at the club until the summer of 2019 and the Dons insist their man is not leaving.
The hysteria resulted in the club issuing a statement allaying supporters’ fears.
It read: “The club can confirm Derek McInnes remains the manager of Aberdeen Football Club.
“The various rumours which have been circulating this afternoon on social media are completely without substance or foundation and we would question the motivation of those individuals looking to unsettle the club.
“Derek is fully focused on preparing the squad for our important match against Ross County on Friday evening.
“The club will not be commenting further on this matter.”
The Dons are top of the Scottish Premiership table after 10 matches, one point clear of Scottish champions Celtic.
