Ross County want to bring former defender Paul Quinn back to Victoria Park.
The 30-year-old, pictured, who left the Staggies in the summer to join Aberdeen on a two-year contract, has grown frustrated at the lack of first team opportunities following the return of vice-captain Mark Reynolds from a shoulder injury at Pittodrie and is eager to move on.
His request is expected to be granted by Dons manager Derek McInnes, who needs to free up funds to strengthen his squad.
Aberdeen have defensive cover with Andy Considine able to play at left back and in central defence and McInnes is eager to strengthen other areas of his side before the transfer window closes on February 1.
The Dons manager can also call on the services of Scott McKenna, who is rated highly at Pittodrie. McInnes watched the under-20 captain help Alloa beat Raith Rovers 1-0 at Stark’s Park in Kirkcaldy on Tuesday and the player is due to return to Pittodrie at the end of the month.
Quinn’s desire to play has alerted County manager Jim McIntyre, who is aiming to strengthen his defence.
Quinn will have to be patient, however, as the Dons travel to Dingwall on Sunday to play County in the Scottish Premiership and it is unlikely a deal will be agreed until after the sides have played.
A return to the Highlands would be welcomed by the County support who watched Quinn play a crucial role in the club’s escape from relegation last season.
The former Motherwell player made 30 appearances for the Staggies and was a key member of McIntyre’s side in the second half of the campaign, scoring three goals as the Staggies secured their Scottish Premiership status.
County wanted to retain Quinn’s services for this campaign and offered the player, who was made captain by McIntyre, a new deal but he opted instead to join the Dons.
He has started 12 games for the Dons this season and made six substitute appearances with his highlight coming in September when he scored the winner for the 10-man Dons against Celtic in a 2-1 victory at Pittodrie.
