Aberdeen midfielder Jonny Hayes will be fit to face Celtic tonight despite suffering injuries to his arm and hand after being bitten by a dog.
The Dons midfielder will wear a strapping to protect his arm and hand against the Hoops tonight at Pittodrie. The former Caley Thistle midfielder required 18 stitches to close the wounds suffered last week.
The incident happened when Hayes was walking his two Labradors at Balmedie last week when he was bitten by another dog. Hayes suffered the injuries while attempting to separate the dogs. Dons manager Derek McInnes said: “In all seriousness, it was quite a nasty bite. It required a lot of stitches. It hasn’t affected his training.
“It was on his arm. It was not a laughing matter at the time. Of all the people to bite into, I think the dog made a bad decision biting into Jonny Hayes.
“It must have been a greyhound to catch him.”
The Dons manager is used to dealing with the regular incidents which seem to follow Hayes around but is relieved to have his key man available tonight.
He said: “If there is any drama, it is normally Jonny. He is worth the drama, though. The specialist who saw him for his stitches was a guy called Barker.
“I thought I was in the middle of a comedy sketch when he was telling me. I think it was then that I walked away.”
